  What's Your Style?

YES, YOUR PERSONALITY IS INHERITED

You are born with a Personality Style inherited from one of your parents, not from both. This one, basic Personality Style endures throughout your life. It is as much a part of you as the color of your eyes, and the pattern of your fingerprints. You cannot change it. It is who you are.

From infancy on through your life, you can either use this Personality Style to your advantage or you can struggle against it with great stress and anxiety. Each Personality must progress through the different stages of development in their own particular way. The more and the earlier you know about how you function within the organization of your own Personality Style, the greater your opportunity to live in a fulfilling manner.

Since Personality is inherited form one parent only, the probability of two Styles co-existing in the same family is likely. Therefore, the need is great that the both Styles be recognized, understood and appreciated. Otherwise communication and interaction can be difficult, and the peace and the harmony of the family disrupted. We have to learn to appreciate the differences and practice understanding. We have to become more accepting of others who are not like us, and this is first learned -or not- in the family.

Remember, each Personality Style has its own essence, its strengths and weaknesses. What is healthy and mature behavior for one Personality Style might not suit another. A non-like parent might expect a child to behave in a manner wholly inappropriate to the child’s Personality Style. For example, the Influencing mother who expects her Adaptable daughter to be the take-charge organizer of scouting events is asking that child to go against her own Style. The Accomplishing father who expects his Sensitive son to sing for adult company is placing him in a stressful situation. Keep in mind that the rules of encouraging, disciplining, supporting, and correcting are relative to each Personality Style.
